In the 1940s and 50s, the Golden Age of the radio hour, Cuban Americans were glued to their radios to discover new artists from their homeland. Bacardi was a proud sponsor of such programs, and we’re excited to help recreate this once beloved program, with a modern twist.
To celebrate Bacardi’s heritage, three emerging bands will play their songs Cuban style in an all-out, anything-goes studio collaboration with the Cuban band, Yerba Buena. Each week, a new artist will be featured on the Bacardi station and feature exclusive audio and video content that will take you behind the scenes with the bands. Yerba Buena, a fusion of African-rooted Latin music like Cuban Rumba, was founded and led by Grammy-winning producer/songwriter Andres Levin. Andres is widely regarded for bringing authentic Afro-Cuban rhythms to mainstream genres, making this a perfect partnership for our emerging artists.
The first session launches on April 29 and features White Denim, a southern rock band from Austin Texas. White Denim is joined by Yerba Buena on a couple of new, Cuban style, arrangements of “At Night In Dreams” and “I Start To Run.” Afterwards, stay tuned as they sit down to talk about the incredible day and their journey as musicians.
